A love letter to soapstone ❣️
Soapstone, if you’re reading this, we love you.
We have used soapstone on a fireplace before but this was our first time using it in a kitchen. We used a dark green/blue soapstone on the countertops and backsplash and boy I immediately want to redo my kitchen.
Soapstone is a standout material, known for its durability, heat resistance, and low-maintenance care. Its natural beauty lies in the deep, rich colors, which range from soft greys to deep greens, and its smooth, matte finish. Unlike many other natural stones, soapstone is non-porous, making it stain-resistant and ideal for kitchen countertops. It’s also is environmental friendly meaning soapstone is not manufactured using synthetic chemicals and the extraction of soapstone doesn’t damage the earth and can be recycled.
Unlike marble or granite, soapstone has a softness that feels inviting, while being resilient enough to withstand the demands of a bustling kitchen or busy living space. Over time, the surface develops a natural patina, giving it even more character and charm.
The one and only downside I have noticed so far is that soapstone does scratch fairly easy but it can be buffed out.
